TAJ MAHAL India


Tāj Mahal (bahasa Urdu: تاج محل, Hindi: ताज महल) adalah sebuah monumen yang terletak di Agra, India. Dibangun atas keinginan Kaisar Mughal Shāh Jahān, anak Jahangir, sebagai sebuah musoleum untuk istri Persianya, Arjumand Banu Begum, juga dikenal sebagai Mumtaz-ul-Zamani atau Mumtaz Mahal. Pembangunannya menghabiskan waktu 23 tahun (1630-1653) dan merupakan sebuah adi karya dari arsitektur Mughal.

Di sebuah kota bernama Agra yang terletak di kawasan utara India Uttar Pradesh, berdiri sebuah gedung indah. Sekilas gedung ini mirip sebuah masjid. Tapi, sebenarnya ini adalah sebuah makam. Ceritanya, Taj Mahal itu dibangun untuk mengenang Arjumand Bano Begum, istri pangeran. Arjumand menikah dengan putra ketiga Raja Jahangir, Pangeran Khurram, ketika berusia 21 tahun. Spanjang perkawinan itu, sang istri setia mendampingi suaminya di istana mereka yang mewah di Agra dan di tenda saat perang.

Pada 1628 Khurram menjadi raja setelah terjadi pertumpahan darah. Namanya pun berubah menjadi Shahjahan yang berarti sang raja dunia. Untuk sang istri, Shahjahan memberikan predikat tertinggi. Istrinya menjadi Mumtaz Mahal. Sayangnya, Mumtaz Mahal tidak ditakdirkan lama menjadi ratu.


Sekitar 1631 Shahjahan mengadakan ekspedisi ke wilayah selatan dan, seperti biasa. Mumtaz Mahal menemaninya. Namun, dia meninggal ketika melahirkan anak ke-14 Shahjahan. Ketika Mumtaz Mahal meninggal, umurnya baru 39 tahun.

Untuk mengenang kepergian sang istri, Shahjahan memutuskan mendirikan makam indah yang terbuat dari marmer asli. Bangunan ini didirikan di pinggir sebuah sungai agar tidak tertutupi dengan bangunan lainnya. Bangunan yang akan terus dikenang dunia.

Untuk membangun makam besar (atau lebih sering disebut musoleum) ini, butuh waktu selama 17 tahun dan mengerahkan 20 ribu pekerja. Mereka yang bekerja adalah para ahli seperti arsitek, pemahat, ahli kaligrafi, dan tukang batu dari seluruh India, Persia, dan Turki. Bangunan Taj Mahal yang tingginya mencapai 60 meter ini berlapis emas, perak, bahkan berlian. Setelah selesai, tempat ini juga menjadi peristirahatan terakhir sang raja. Inilah Taj Mahal yang indah dan 'mahal'.
